Lost Causes

So the DA wants to establish an oversight committee on the Presidency. Regardless of the chances of this actually happening (and I’m pretty sure they’re non-existent), it feels slightly presumptuous, not unlike COPE’s attempt earlier this year to pass a vote of no confidence on President Zuma.

While I appreciate the DA’s attempt to keep the excesses of the ruling party in check, occasionally it feels like they could be doing more substantial work rather than grabbing headlines with high-profile bids like this that are doomed to fail. Not that I’m exactly sure what they could be doing, other than making sure the Western Cape runs efficiently, but this just seems like they’re wasting everyone’s time.

Speaking of bids that are doomed to fail, Richard Dawkins is adamant that he will have the Pope arrested for crimes against humanity should he try to visit the UK later this year.  The most surprising thing about this story? The balanced comments left on the article on TimesLive.

Obviously, Christopher Hitchens is also in on it. Here’s a nice bit of Hitchens awesomeness, And another.
